I have just got back from Ho Chi Minh, and am very pleased to announce that the Rex Hotel will be the venue for this year’s Asia CanTech. For those of you who don’t know the hotel, it’s a beautiful French Colonial building in a superb central location, recently refurbished and looking good.

The hotel is smaller than the Royal Orchid in Bangkok in terms of room numbers – I’d compare it to the Méridien in Kuala Lumpur. This being the case, please book early to guarantee your room.

This year we are 99% sure that we will have a site visit to a can plant on Thursday 20 October, so bear that in mind when you book your flights. I will let you know when it is confirmed.

Most of you will require a visa – but not if you come from Asean countries, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Finland (and are staying less than 15 days). It is very easy for the Chinese to travel to Vietnam (no visa required) so I’m hoping for a good contingency of can makers from there. Do check with your own embassies re visa requirements.

We will be holding the Technical Forum again, giving can makers practical advice on production problems and how to resolve them. This will be presented by Chris McKenzie of Chemtool, Jonathan Ellaby and Jack Knight of INX, Roger Baker of Pressco and Adrian Long of CarnaudMetalBox Engineering.

Also if you catch the latest issue of CanTech International we have Jack Knight talking about image/plate issues and Chris McKenzie on front end spoilage reduction.

Chrissy tells me that nine presentation slots have already been booked and that there has been a very positive response to the location. So let’s hope for a great conference deserving of this industry .

    All the best

    Neil
