AkzoNobel to build new facility in India

AkzoNobel has announced it is opening a new production facility in Thane, India, to manufacture coatings for the metal packaging and flexible packaging industries. The production facility will mainly serve Indian, Bangladeshi, Shri Lankan and Southeast Asian markets.

The facility will have a capacity of 5000 tons a year and is set to produce a range of products such as interior lacquers for food and beer cans, internal and external lacquers for caps and closures, and water-borne external lacquers for beverage cans. The facility will be capable of producing various functional and barrier coatings for the flexible packaging industry.

“Our markets in South Asia particularly India are growing rapidly, so expanding our production capacity is a priority,” comments AB Ghosh, managing director Industrial Coatings. “It reflects our optimism about the market and commitment to invest in the markets where we are active.”

Ashok Joshi, director Packaging Coatings, comments, “The Thane production facility, located 25 kilometers northeast of Mumbai, was chosen not only to leverage AkzoNobel’s scale, but more importantly to be closer to our customers.”
