The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that Novelis has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard at its Zhenjiang production facility in China. It is the second Novelis facility in China to receive Performance Standard Certification and its 19th certified facility globally.

The independent, third-party audit of Novelis’ Zhenjiang plant was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.

Fiona Solomon, chief executive officer at ASI, said: “We sincerely congratulate Novelis on achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Zhenjiang rolling facility. Aluminium applications for the Aerospace sector must meet stringent operational performance requirements for strength, ductility, damage tolerance, and fatigue, among others. This ASI Performance Standard Certification demonstrates the company is also addressing the increasing global focus on the environmental, social and governance performance of aluminium production processes and operations.”

“We are delighted that Novelis’ Zhenjiang plant is now certified to meet ASI’s environmental, social and governance standards,” said James Liu, managing director of Novelis China. “Driven by our purpose of Shaping a Sustainable World Together, we continuously dedicate ourselves to being the most trusted partner for our customers and to advancing the use of low-carbon, sustainable aluminum solutions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy in partnership with various stakeholders in China.”
