Obituary: Mr C. Y. Chiang, chairman, Great China Metal

Great China Metal Ind. Co. Ltd of Taipei, Taiwan has announced the recent passing of Mr Chiang, Chin-Yee (C. Y. Chiang.)

Mr. Chiang was chairman of Great China Metal and instrumental in the growth of the company over a number of years.

He was known for his leadership and innovations in the manufacturing of containers of all types. Over the years, Great China Metal manufactured welded cans, general line cans, aerosol cans, fancy tins and two-piece aluminium cans and ends. With the manufacture of aluminium cans and ends, GCM Ltd. became a prime supplier in Taiwan and other areas of aluminium cans and ends.

As GCM grew, Mr Chiang highlighted his business acumen with numerous investments in manufacturing ventures in China and Vietnam. One accomplishment that he was extremely proud of was the investment and construction of a plant for the manufacture of the ATULC can.

Mr Chiang was the consummate businessman. He was aware of current manufacturing trends in cans, ends, PET products, steel body cans and stretch wrap. His business was his life. He was a man of vision, preparation and follow-through. He took great pleasure in being in his office each morning and starting his workday with a review of manufacturing, shipping and problems from the previous day. He was a strong advocate of keeping himself informed of current aluminium and steel pricing and other commodities related to aluminium can manufacturing.
