Tubex launches lightweighted aerosol can

German aerosol can manufacturer Tubex has launched its new light weight aerosol aluminium can “Designed for Sustainability and Recycling”.

Tubex and slug supplier Neuman Aluminium developed a patented slug for aluminium aerosol cans with a considerable weight reduction compared to a standard aluminium can. It was seen by Tubex as a step to focus even more on weight reduction.

Tubex looked into the wall thickness and shoulder shape of an existing can. By reducing the wall thickness and modifying the shoulder shape the result is a weight loss close to 20% compared to the standard can with aluminium 99.5.

“Beside the considerable weight reduction, the Neucan 3.1 slug allows the usage of real PCR materials as proven in first successful productions recently,” said Leo Werdich, managing director.

The reduction in wall thickness makes the cans more susceptible to dents during transit, so Tubex invested in layer wide packaging to make sure the cans arrive in perfect shape. The fully automatic packaging process uses cameras to check the cans and a robot system places the cans onto the pallet.

As a result of the lightweighting, 15% more cans be put onto the pallets, requiring less truck and storage space, reducing the CO2 emissions of the logistics process.
