Bhutan Agro Industries Limited (BAIL), a fruit and vegetable processing company, has announced that it will be adopting aluminium cans in its packaging processes. Departing from tinplate, aluminium cans will be rolled out for all of the company’s fruit juices and beverages.
Speaking on this major shift, the company’s CEO, Sherab Namgay, stated that “the products in aluminium cans are better in terms of quality and outer design, and look,” and that, by changing its products in this way, BAIL has “introduced a product that is of global standard today.”
The shift in BAIL’s packaging philosophy reflects wider trends present across the packaging industry, favouring lightweight and infinitely recyclable packaging whilst modernising presentation and meeting international standards.
Following this announcement, BAIL has also confirmed that it will be expanding its international exports. Neighbouring countries, such as Bangladesh and parts of India, will still be included, but BAIL also plans to enter both the Australian and Thailand markets with its new products. This development comes as a direct result of the packaging changes.
“Exporting products with fewer chemicals, preservatives and sugar abroad allows us to showcase the Bhutanese aspect, raise the Brand Bhutan and the fame of the country,” highlighted Namgay, further stressing the importance of the change to aluminium – a deviation which will allow products to be better protected from elements such as light and oxygen, preserving them for longer.
BAIL has asserted that its juice formulation has not changed, and that thepackaging changes will not affect its finished products.
